National Content Science Standards used in the Inner Earth Unit
National Science as Inquiry Standards
levels 9-12
-Abilities Necessary to do Scientific Inquiry
-Understanding About Scientific Inquiry Learning Performance- Students will pose questions, conduct investigations, make explanations based on evidence, gather and interpret data, and reflect upon laboratory experiments conducted within the classroom
National Physical Science Standards
levels 9-12
-Structure and properties of Matter
-Interactions of Energy and Matter Learning Performance- Students will be able to diagram and explain the interactions of rocks with the heat from inner earth within the rock cycle as well as use the properties of rocks and minerals to identify various types and forms of each.
National Earth & Space Science Standards
levels 9-12
-Geochemical Cycles
-Origin and Evolution of the Earth System Learning Performance- Students will be able to depict and interpret their representations of the rock cycle, and plate tectonics, they will also be able to defend their representations of Pangaea with evidence.
National Science and Technology Standards
levels 9-12
-Understanding about Science and Technology Learning Performance- Students will be to analyze how technology (seismograph in particular) functions in relation to natural phenomenon and what data is given and used from it. They will also questions its usage and effectiveness and pose potintial benefits or modifications for technology based on the knowledge gained of the natural phenomenon.
National Science in Social Perspectives Standards
levels 9-12
-Natural and Human Induced Hazards
-Science and Technology in local, national, and global Challenges Learning Performance- Students will be able to describe the occurrence of volcanoes and earthquakes, as well as the ramifications in todays human society and environmental impacts.
